PRESS RELEASE
Best Pinoy Fighters Duke it Out at Chi April 23 in Non-stop Boxing and Muay Thai Extravaganza
Chi at the Lodge will be packed with fight fans on April 23, 2010 at 6:30 pm as KO Promotions launches KO6, its latest series of championship bouts with the world's most exciting fighters.
Topping the card are three of the Philippines' best boxers: Rey ‘Boom Boom’ Bautista, reigning WBO Intercontinental Super Bantamweight Champion; undefeated 22-year old Milan Melindo, ranked #1 in the World Boxing Organization standings; and the up and coming Hilario 'Bon Jovi' Canillas.
KO Promotions General Manager Zack Taumafai said: “Our goal is to offer UAE fight fans superb action from world-standard fighters on a regular basis. While the UAE has its own fight scene, the fighters here lack platforms to take on quality opponents. In providing that we give the fighters a chance to test themselves and fans a chance to take in world-class fights right here at home.”
Bautista will face off with Arton Chanrot from Thailand, while Melindo will face Komrit Twins gym for a World Intercontinental Boxing Council fight. Fred Sayumi from Tanzania will stand off against Canillas in his first fight outside of Africa.
Thai boxing fans will be able to cheer on Mohammed Ali “The Stallion” Bayat and Simon Young, both from KO Gym, in a seven-round tag team bout against New Zealands Richie Nola and Thailands Atthador Pantong.
The event is co-sanctioned by the World Boxing Council and the World Kickboxing Federation. KO Promotions has held five championship bouts featuring muay thai, kickboxing and boxing in Dubai in the past two years, and has hosted a number of prominent faces from the international fight scene, including Remy ‘the Flying Gentleman’ Bonjasky of Holland. KO’s General Manager Zack Taumafai is a Dubai-based trainer out of KO Gym, located in Dubai Marina.
